Name announced for Seafood Festival
The lure of seafood, sunshine and scenery is expected to bring thousands to a festival at a popular waterfront destination in Northland this summer.
Scheduled to be held on November 10, the Marsden Cove Seafood Festival has been touted to be Northland’s answer to internationally renowned seafood festivals.
Leeann de Vries, who was the face behind last summer’s popular Canopy Night Markets in Whangarei, says her vision has always been to create a series of events to feature on a social calendar for the region.
“I’m still astounded by the numbers we saw at the Canopy Night Markets,” says Ms De Vries, referring to the thousands who flocked to the venue- resulting in vendors selling out within the hour on the opening night.
“It just shows that as a region, Northland was ready for this kind of event.”
The upcoming festival is set to be another big event for the region, featuring a line-up of big-name musicians such Annie Crummer, Tiki Taane and Che Fu.
There will also be demonstrations from celebrity chef, Jax Hamilton and a few other guest appearances yet to be confirmed.
Ms de Vries says the event is all about strengthening Northland as a community.
“We don’t get enough positive things happening here, so this is my way of bringing the community together.”
She says she envisions this event to have a family atmosphere with lots of room to chill-out with a blanket and bean bags. A designated kids zone with affordable rides will complete the picture.
“I can see the festival having great music, combined with fresh seafood and other delicacies our region is famous for. I want to showcase Northland for the world-class destination we are.”
Ms de Vries has recently launched her website- www.marsdencoveseafoodfestival.co.nz where readers can sign up to be the first to know about early-birds tickets.
“Think seafood, think fresh, think seaside location, great music and a family outing,” she says. “Together we can take ownership of this event and make it a success!”
