Culture and cuisine on the Canopy Bridge

If you’re looking for a little culture and a little something nice to eat this weekend, check out the International Food and Culture Festival in Whangarei.

The event will be held on the Canopy Bridge on Saturday from 1 to 6pm and is a fundraiser for a troupe of dancers.

Jodie Hannam of Northland Events, who is organising the cultural showcase says it will raise funds for the Whangarei Intermediate group of 16 youths called SMAC, who are aged 11 to 14 years-old and taking part in an upcoming national dance competition.

The funds will be used to create handmade costumes for the troupe which will celebrate the multi-cultural ethnicities of the group.

“This festival will bring together food from all over the world as well as performances from a multitude of groups ranging from Kapahaka, Chinese dancing, Hip Hop, RocknRoll, Belly Dancing and more,” says Ms Hannam.

“There will be arts and crafts stalls showcasing fabulous local talents and foods, as well as lots of activities for the kids like face painting, henna tattooing, balloon animals and more.”
